Rev. Fr. Leo Emong’aes Obuya OSB was born on 13^th July 1978 at Ong’ariama, Chakol Parish in the Catholic Diocese of Bungoma. He went to Ong’ariama Primary School from 1987 to 1995. He first started his high school at St. Peter’s Minor Seminary, Mukumu in 1996 and completed at Busia Standard Secondary and Amung’ura Compressive College and with A Level at St. John College, Busia from 1997 to 2002.

Leo joined the monastery on 1^st May 2012 and had his initial formation in Ndanda Abbey, Tanzania. After this formation period, he returned to Tigoni to prepare for his temporary vows which he made on 9^th May 2015. Had his studies in philosophy at the Consolata Institute of Philosophy  Langata, Nairobi from May 2015 to May 2018 and in theology at Tangaza University from August 2018 to May 2022.

He made his solemn vows on 13^th July 2019. Had his diaconate ordination on 20^th May 2022. He served as a deacon both in Tigoni Abbey and St. Benedict Ruaraka parish. Leo Obuya was ordained to the priesthood on 17^th December 2022. Abbot John Baptist appointed Fr. Leo as the Subprior of Tigoni Abbey on 3^rd August 2022 replacing the late Rev. Fr. Florian Prinz von Bayern OSB who passed away on 22^nd June 2022.
