Farm

The space we have in the abbey allows us to do quite a number of activities. We grow tea which we normally sell to the production company. We also maintain some forests for the conservation of the environment. We grow hay which we use for feeding our animals. We have a good number of cows for milk production. The milk from our farm is always more than enough for the daily consumption of the monks, guests and retreatants. We sell the surplus or excess to the dairy in Limuru and to our customers who come to buy direct from the farm. On the other hand, the waste from cows is used in the production of biogas which benefits our kitchen for cooking.

Using our organic manure, we grow different types of vegetables; cabbages, broccoli, cauliflower, kales (sukumawiki), spinach, cowpeas, sweet pepper, Chinese cabbages, garlic chives, spring onions, red onions, Lettuce, manage, sargetti, terere and kandhra (dhoro). Our greenhouse is useful for the production of tomatoes and capsicums.

Our butchery has a variety of meat products. We keep pigs both for our consumption and commercial. Our poultry gives us both white meat and eggs. We also have a few sheep and goats. Br. Alphonse Anyango OSB is our current Farm Manager.
